Denver 5 Proof of Concept, pt 06

A few months ago, I and a friend kicked around an aborted comics project featuring superhuman jerks being jerks on a truly superhuman level. Character descriptions are here and the pilot plots are posted below.

Comic 026
1. Tyler Foss is in the back of a police car. Two cops, Passenger and Driver, are in the front seat.

Tyler
"You know I can lift cars, right?"

Passenger
"Yeah."

Tyler
"Then why the cuffs?"

Driver
"Procedure."

2. Same as 1. Police officers are irritated.

Tyler
"But they do nothing. It's inconvenient for me not to break them."

Passenger
"Procedure."

3. Tight focus on Tyler through grid of the police car. His expression is scornful.

Tyler
"That's stup--"

4. Original POV including all three men. The screech of brakes is prominent in the picture. Tyler is being thrown forward, painfully, into the grid. Both police officers are grinning slightly.

Driver
"Red light."

Comic 027
1. Set at a Denver Police Department (reference). Doctor Roberts and Cyper Paranoid on the sidewalk the rings the police department, walking towards the entrance. There's a police station sign in the background. Thomas Smith is waiting for them. CP is surprised.

Doctor Roberts
"Good. That's everyone."

2. Head on shot through the station's front doors over Dr. Robert's shoulder. Cyber Paranoid and Smith are side by side.

Cyber Paranoid
"I didn't know you lived this close to the station."

Smith
"I don't. I do my job on my client's time."

3. Same perspective, but they're passing through the doors now.

Cyper Paranoid
"Geez. You're even sweating. I didn't think rich people ran for anything."

Smith
"I got rich by sweating."

4. Smith is now closer to Doctor Roberts and pointing back to the parking lot as he addresses the doctor. Cyber Paranoid is still a few steps behind, looking around the police station.

Smith
"But seriously, we gotta make this quick; I'm illegally parked out there."

Comic 028
1. A standard office with the door open. Doctor Roberts and Smith are just inside of the door. Cyber Paranoid is somewhat visible behind them. There is an older, graying officer sitting at the desk in the room. POV is such that it's not quite profile, but Roberts and crew are on the left and the officer is on the right. Try a somewhat elevated perspective, looking down.

Doctor Roberts
"We were instructed to speak with you about Tyler Foss?"

Officer
"Three of you? Is this some kind of breakout?"

2. We're head on with Roberts, Smith, and CP. POV is somewhere in front of the officer.

Doctor Roberts
"Tyler could break himself out. We're all pretty harmless; I'm just an administrator."

Smith
"I'm just a lawyer."

Cyber Paranoid
"I...do computers."

3. We're swinging around and seeing from a perspective opposite that of panel 1. Not exactly mirrored; off by up to 45 degrees or so. The officer is contemplative.

Officer
*thinks*

4. Close up on the guys, slightly to their left, looking down just enough to see Cyber Paranoid gritting his teeth, rolling his eyes, or otherwise showing irritation with the question. That expression is the punchline, so it's awful lucky I don't have to draw it.

Officer
"Could you take a look at my computer? It's awful slow."

Comic 029
1. Doctor Roberts, Cyber Paranoid, and Thomas Smith are still in the office of the unnamed officer. Doctor Roberts and Smith are roughly side-by-side with CP behind them. All three are just inside the doorway. The officer is unsure.

Cyber Paranoid
"Is your computer a Mac or PC?"

Officer
"It's got Windows on it..."

Cyber Paranoid
"Sorry. I only do Macs."

2. Same scene. CP is leaving, backing towards the door, shrugging with the body language of faux apology.
Officer is slightly confused, but resigned.
Cyber Paranoid
"I'll be in the waiting area while you guys take care of business."

3. Panel is split diagonally. The top left half is a close up of Doctor Robert's face. He appears deep in thought, with a thought bubble blocking someone else's dialog. On the lower right half, Cyber Paranoid is walking away from the open door, with an incredibly surprised look on his face.

Doctor Bob (Thought bubble)
"Cyber Paranoid!"

4. Cyber Paranoid is just beyond the door, he's got a face that's somewhere between being caught at doing something wrong and regular uneasiness. The thought bubble from panel three is connected to this one.

Doctor Roberts (Thought Bubble)
"Stay out of trouble."

Comic 30
1. Smith and Doctor Roberts are side-by-side on the left side of the panel. They're still in the office, now beside the desk and facing the now-standing officer, who is o
n the right. The officer is handing them a folder and Smith is taking it.
Officer
"...still pending, but for now we want to keep him in custody."

2. Same scene as 1. Smith flips through the file. The officer has a more serious expression; is holding handcuffs by one of the ends, letting it hang in the air. The links in the middle are stretched conspicuously thin. Doctor Roberts is inquisitive.

Doctor Roberts
"But he's behaving himself, right?"

Officer
(1)"Wanted to talk about that."
(2)"He did this to the handcuffs."

3. Same scene. Smith has his arms folded, the folder lodged under an arm. He's pulling on his tiny pencil moustache and looking up into space thoughtfully. Doctor Roberts has a surprised expression while the officer's is dire.

Officer
"If he'd broken these, the charges would've started with escape from police custody."

4. Same scene. Smith is excited, as he is shouting everyone down. The other two are surprised. Doctor Roberts and the officer are speaking, but their word bubbles are covered by Smith's.

Smith
(1)"Solved!"
(2)"You can both stop talking."
(3)"I solved everything."
