Back when I tallied WWII numbers from Wikipedia, it seemed to me that deaths fell into three (more or less equally sized) parts- -military deaths due to combat or POW camps (which I'll characterize as "War") -civilian deaths due to combat or warcrimes (which I'll characterize as ("Death"), and -civilian deaths due to disruptions of normal life ("Famine" and "Pestilence").
I wonder if that last part's share has shrunk over time.
