I wonder if these (the pilot's) jackets were a direct inspiration for the DS9 ones.
I could see sword-throwing as a wacky future fad sport in Star Fleet.
Trying to introduce someone to TOS via The Menagerie is the biggest mistake of my TV viewing career. Also one of the reasons I'm now such a fan of watching files at 1.5x (or faster) speeds.
When the three women are in the cell talking, I like how Pike is just stalking around in the background of the shots.
With regard to the relevance of Nazis, and Derek's tiredness with Nazis: it recently occurred to me that the year 2019 will be as far from WW2 as WW2 is from the American Civil War.
Starfleet uniforms probably just lack a certain versatility TV needs to communicate things visually. Kirk, Picard, and Sisko all get special uniforms that I don't think anyone else gets. As the captains and dramatic centers of their series (well, Sisko is more center than anyone else on DS9) it makes sense.
Sword throwing is still way cooler than anbo jyutsu.
Editing and Code School taught me that 1.5x trick. Sooo helpful.
2019? Can't wait for XKCD to do a comic on that.
