The galaxy is about thirTEEN billion years old. Not three to four. Sorry. At least that inaccuracy distracts from the continued weirdness of Star Trek and cats and women. Institutionalized beastiality? Women who can't consent? Women who can't not consent? Uncomfortable.
Heavy Metal was released in 1981 and Voltron was 1984 so they're not contemporary, but Scooby-Doo's 1969 air date very much is.
Also it turns out that Kzinti were going to be included in Enterprise before it was canceled. That almost makes Enterprise intriguing.
17 to 01 is available on iTunes. It updates Thursday mornings at 2:00 AM ET / 1:00 CT. We're also amazingly on Stitcher.

Hah, Derek's stasis boxes = pokeballs.
It feels like they're reading the dialogue slow to me, but you're right, there are a lot of things happening in the episode. Between that and Uhura and Sulu getting more play, TAS does make a nice 4th-and-a-half season for TOS. I almost want to suggest TOS might've done better if they hadn't needed to fill an hour slot, but there's probably a few eps that would've been worse if you shaved ten or so minutes off.
The force field belts are a sensible addition for the cartoon. I'm not surprised the later live action shows omitted them, but I am surprised there were never any references back to them at all.
Everything in TAS was neatly forgotten as of The Motion Picture, but as crazy as it was it wasn't much worse than TOS. And TOS was also mostly ignored in TNG.
And the timing thing is important. Some episodes fit and some don't but I never got that impression from TNG. Trying to figure out how that happens should be a bit part of the TNG run through, tentatively titled The Beige and The Bold.
Title could work. I certainly don't have anything better.
Enterprise's take on Star Trek's catwoman weirdness would indeed have been something to see.
