So true. I enjoy "dark" shows thoroughly, but they can be such incredible downers. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for instance - even "good" events tend to leave the heroes worse off than they were before.
Star Trek is the opposite, where even bad things tend to resolve in a way that's uplifting. I (vaguely) remember story from a guy whose high-stress job wore away at his faith in human nature, how he'd come home after work, and ST:TNG would restore his faith in humanity.
Exactly. I like the Walking Dead and what little I saw of Battlestar Galactica was pretty grim and pretty good, but dark is a seasoning, not a flavor, and it doesn't go with everything. Do you hear me, people who are making Man of Steel?!

Well, Superman isn't Batman, so it can't end up *that* dark. I hope.
