Movie Notes: The Naked Gun (2025)

I take notes when I watch movies and after the movies, I post those notes on the internet. These are my notes for The Naked Gun (2025). Notes made after the movie are made in <<>>'s.

This trailer is awful. They have a trailer for the trailer. They chop up the manslaughter joke. It's bafflingly incompetent.

I'm the only one in the theater. And it's the smallest theater. It's been out for…almost two weeks. Maybe that's bad. <<I'm enjoying it though.>>

Commercials throw to the "thanks for watching our commercials" then a hard cut, silence, then ads for the theater I'm already at.

More silence.

Then the movie pre-roll where they ask me to turn off my phone and enjoy the movie.

The lights are still up.

Bugonia - Emma Stone in a movie about bees and capitalism. October. Looks intriguing.

One Battle After Another - These have been some very interesting previews.

Mr. Nobody 2 - That's gotta be all the fights in the trailer, so why watch. Looks less compelling than the original and the original was bleeeeargh.

Freakier Friday - Love Manny Jacinto, but..deffo for families.

This is Spinal Tap II - Looks intriguing. The end continues. September.

Lights still haven't gone down.

Running Man - Still feels like a movie that came out recently <<Self-Reliance https://youtu.be/Ocw_fVdr4_g?si=nyDBvn9q9kafxETA>> Wasn't the original Running Man just a deadly gameshow with colorful characters?

Roofman - Looks like fun. I don't get the Channing Tatum hype. It's a fun thing. Every story beat is in the trailer though.

Lights are finally going down. Is that normal?

Spinal Tap commercial…again, but also its a theater promo. Charming commercial though. Wonder if it's green screened, but who else would cut a promo like this.

14 people for a bank robbery seems like a lot…or maybe I've seen The Dark Knight too many times.

"Frank Drebin. Detective with with Police Squad." Nice.

Drum? "Just enough to get me up."

"Lieutenant Drebin."

"Me too!"

<<I wonder if there's a name for the type of joke that depends on presuming a different social context for a line.>>

"Cigar?"

"Looks like it."

<<We're just Police Squaddin' here. If you don't like it then leave.>>

The manslaughter joke works better in the movie than in the trailer. <<I checked. The trailer cuts it up and puts it in the wrong order.>>

The body cam bit is fun.

"Unplug it, then plug it back in." Is there not, in every great story, a salient lesson for the audience?

Weird Al is always a nice cameo.

"...he's white."

"So you're Tony Roiland's brother!"

<<It's hard to do my usual response schtick with a comedy, so sometimes I'm just going to do the YouTube comments thing and quote the parts that are funny.>>

That's a real Pea-tear Griffin bit. <<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoCnwJm1iBo>>

The ad on the security footage is great.

Mother fucking Clippy?!

You got Brooklyn 99'ed! <<specifically, "The Last Day, Part 2.">>

"Ponzischeme.com arena." Nice.

It's hard to argue with Enya.

"I guess old men really are the toughest, smartest, etc. etc."

A hell of a line from Taken Guy.

Of course there's credits gags.

Classic gags.

Danny Huston. Gotta look him up. <<He's been in a million things, but I recognized him as the young William Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine>>

Oh nice. It's a payoff for the "I rented a studio" bit.

Liam Neeson's accent is coming through a bit at the end here.
