Movie Notes: Superman (2025)

I take notes when I watch movies and after the movies, I post those notes on the internet. These are my notes for Superman. Notes made after the movie are made in <<>>'s.

Previews

Naked Gun 2025 - Okay

Smurfs - Are we still doing "that's gonna leave a mark"? Are we still doing it or did we go all the way around and the back to "that's gonna leave a mark"?

The Odyssey - Initially thought this was "The Return" with Ralph Fiennes. But it's The Odyssey with Tom Holland. I've seen hotter Telemechai.

<<Discussion has since been consumed by the *horror* of a dark-skinned Helen and a transgender Achilles. Which is a shame.>>

Wicked II - Okay. It's a part three? Can't even guess about the arc of this series.

Treason and Truth - Again; GUNS are our most powerful weapon. The truth is up there, but guns are very powerful. And apache attack helicopters. They've got guns and missiles.

Project: Hail Mary - Obvious mix of Interstellar and The Martian. Written by the The Martian guy. No kiddin'.

Fantastic Four - Looks good. Interesting to put together context clue from the Thunderbolts and the last mini trailer. [Man, I was wrong about most of that.]

Cat & The Hat - Bill Hader? "A new world." Yeah, let's make the Seuss-iverse happen. ::(

Welcome Back - Is that the The Last of Us woman?

One Battle After Another - Very different from the first trailer.

The Movie

Good logo with the old Superman music and then the modern interpretation.

"3 centuries of superhumans" Yeah, let's do a text crawl.

Is Bradley Cooper his dad?

That lens should be bigger. <<Y'know, to gather more sunlight. Let's imagine a bigger lens a bit further out.>>

That wasn't even Act I. That was just a teaser.

Steve Lombard isn't the most important Superman supporting character but Beck Bennett is a good choice.

I like that Clark has a fairly deep voice.

"Planet Watch." Love it. <<Gods I miss Stormwatch so much.>>

3 weeks ago was their first date. Nice touch.

Ultraman is a clone. The Kryptonian DNA summons the fortress.

They killed that dog quick. <<Oh. Maybe not.>>

Why not plant a <<nuclear>> bomb here, Lex?

The dialog here in the fortress is a bit obvious, isn't it?

This story is moving at a breakneck pace. <<Not a criticism; just an observation.>>

Justice Gang - Lord Tech Industries. This is one hell of an Act 2.

Eeey, Metamorpho.

Jimmy, who is sleeping with everyone.

Jimmy is a fucking hero.

This is the Hall of Justice, right?

"Nanobots in his blood." Mr. Terrific is a good friend.

"Oh wow. Is there a 'slow' setting?" <<The garage door was a great gag.>>

Lex: "I didn't imagine it would go so quickly."

Gay Perry: "You…put a live round…in that gun…"

Yes, keep shooting at the reporter and not the masked man one-shotting Nighthawk power armor.

"That is cool." Another instance of the movie saying when the movie is obviously cool. <<If! It's! Cool! The Audience! Will! Know!>>

If you're gonna get rid of the kryptonite, maybe make your hand into another green glowing crystal so as to fool the man with a gun to your baby's head.

Metamorpho, fusion is not safe.

Ok. Comic book anti-protons. <<Note: You are made of protons. Most physical things are. If an anti-proton had sufficient energy to enter the nucleus of an atom, it would undergo matter/antimatter annihilation with more energy than fusion or fission. If the nucleus wasn't physically blown apart, and didn't undergo a nuclear decay because of the interaction, it would likely become an unstable isotope of whatever you're made of. Imagine a stream of subatomic particles that–at best–irradiates whatever it doesn't disintegrate.>>

I think when you're shooting a guy holding a baby, you should ask if you're the baddie.

Well, I do concede there is radiation around a black hole.

It's night now. Did Mr. Terrific kill these folks?

The super-genius says the controls are intuitive. <<This line is funny to me on its face. Engineers are proverbially bad at user interface design.>>

Just turn off the thing, Mr. Terrific.

Hey, look at that. Superman can't be everywhere at once. <<Classic Superman conundrum.>>

*Counts seven pointless car crashes.* Oh, people of Metropolis, never change.

The Engineer vs. Mr. Terrific is a good–ok.

I gotta admit it, The Engineer makes a good melee weapon.

I would not grapple with a Superman fighting for his life. <<Just wouldn't do it.>>

My pitch for the final act of MOS (2013) was a Superman fight in the sewers. I can't hate this movie.

This flag symbolism is a bit on the nose. <<I forgive you, Superman (2025)>>

"You get the upgrade." Guy Gardener, never change.

You could've lasered those drones 30 minutes ago <<but we set up the dog and now we're paying it off.>>

Ah, the good old Miles Morales. <<man, that kid has more guts than gasoline, but he's good.>>

Maxwell Lord. He's gonna be a good ally forever. <<Also James Gunn likes his actors.>>

You saved the world, Jimmy. The price was steep, but it was worth it.

It's hard to hate a movie that ends on a note this high.
