TRO: 3087 - Patsy

3087 is a Battletech alternate universe where The Jihad never happened. Instead, political fracturing continues in the wake of the technological and military upheavals of the 3050's. Its history is told through the pages and designs of TRO: 3087. With any luck this series will be the last anyone hears about 3087.

PTSY-1-2LV Patsy
Overview
The Blakist-backed Terran Protectorate was shattered by the ilClan War. With the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine distracted, the coreward worlds of the Protectorate were at risk of becoming a second Chaos March. When they joined to become the tiny Entente Alliance, it was considered convenient, but otherwise unremarkable
The Alliance’s military was anemic and made up of a melange of Clan salvage and Inner Sphere surplus units acquired through desperate barter deals.
When their leadership located a factory packed up by the Nova Cats and lost in their annihilation, a top priority was to make a versatile, cheap unit to develop a unified set of tactics and raise national morale.
Luckily, the Cats had been in in the process of designing such a ‘Mech. Known as the Ocelot, it was reworked into the Patsy with a little help from The Word of Blake.

Capabilities
The Patsy is a rugged, powerful light ‘mech that’s considered slow for its weight class. The Entente Alliance Common Army’s composition is still mostly cobbled together with varied strategies and organization. The Patsy was designed to remedy this, but its versatility means that they’re often tasked with patching holes in existing units instead of being a base around which the unit is rebuilt.
One exception to this is the Patsy’s C3 spotter gear. Many units have organized surplus command ‘Mechs as heads of company formations with at least one lance of C3-spotter-equipped ‘Mechs to support them. Patsys are often pulled for these assignments and it’s hope that up-and-coming Mechwarriors assigned to such prestige roles will think highly of the ‘Mech in years to come.
The other popular role for the Patsy is ambusher. As a small ‘Mech with a humanoid profile and a dangerous close-in punch, it excels as other units can use its point-blank telemetry.
The Patsy can be used as a scout, a line-fighter, or even a brawler. The locally renown militia force the Wellwraiths even use two of them as support units for their mechanized infantry.

Battle History
When the Ghost Bears learned the origins of the Alliance’s first ‘Mech factory, they dispatched a force to trial against the fledgling state. The Patsy’s first taste of combat was in the fight to protect the factory that made it.
The Battle of Bellvie Valley was the first and most memorable encounter of the Patsy and the Entente Alliance. The Ghost Bears bid low and fairly at the green forces which were relying on a few lances of untried ‘Mechs. The Patsys fired wildly as they moved through Clanner forces, but their support fire was devastating. None of the small 'Mechs were operable by the time the Bears withdrew, but they’d served to distract and soften up their enemies. The Ghost Bears were subsequently the first state to recognize the Alliance and relations have been warm ever since.
Lieutenant Miller Tanner was known as “The Wrecking Ball” for his ability to weave his Patsy deftly between and through buildings. In a holding action against the Draconis Combine in 3084, he ran his damaged ‘Mech through a building to flank an enemy unit. DCMS infantry units had rigged the building against just such a move and his Patsy was impaled on a girder. Now repaired, it still serves in the DCMS.

Notable Variants
The -5-2LV is a recent and uncommon variant. Most C3 command units are on heavy or assault ‘Mechs, slow units with limited mobility. The -5-2LV trades its heavy lasers and additional heat sinks for a C3 command unit in order to provide command and control for an all-Patsy lance on the move. Many companies they’re attached to utilize company level networks to better utilize  light C3 lances for company-on-company battles.
For export to Inner Sphere powers, the -1-1IL carries weapons that are easier to maintain: an local extended range medium laser and more reliable standard laser. The performance is much lower, but the use and repair of advanced endo-steel structures often reminds buyers of the additional costs of more advanced systems.
