Movie Trailers for April 2025

Maybe it's because I'm making this two-thirds of the way through April instead of in March like I was supposed to, but there are so many interesting trailers this month. Enough to do a bit of a theme.

A Nice Indian Boy (April 4th)

Cute and interesting lil' gay movie. Gotta learn Karan Soni's name now. He's gotta be more than, "Dopinder" in Deadpool now.

Really? "Dopinder"?

Whoof. That franchise really charmed it's way across some lines.

Sinners (April 18th)

I've long been a fan of Michael B. Jordan's biceps, but sure; From Dusk 'Til Dawn, post WWI South Edition.

Magic Farm (April 25th...somewhere...maybe)

Kinda weird. A little...ugly and unproduced, but in a good way?

The Gardener (April 11th)

"But VanVelding, Netflix content and foreign films tend to not make the cut of the ten movies in these lists," you say.

"and also it's a mini-series, and it's the skinny guy with the curly dark hair, isn't it?" you finally realize.

Sacramento (April 11th)

Eh. A coming of middle age story. Defined as 40-something friends who've grown apart reuniting while dealing with death and doing a road trip or some other traditional coming of age road trip structure because that's how we contextualize personal growth now I guess.

On Swift Horses

There's a certain feeling I associate with some movies and this one moves that feeling very close to words.

It's a date night movie where if you watch it, that's fine. But if you end up making out instead, that's also great.

Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer to Decided to Write About a Serial Killer (April 4th)

I like it. Not just because Steve Buscemi is great, but because the concept is fun. It goes from pretty lazy but promising plot to doing the fish out of water, killer-as-therapist bit. Plus real stakes.

That's a hell of a trailer.

The Wedding Banquet (April 18th)

This month's semi-theme is gay movies, and The Wedding Banquet isn't Spoiler Alert, but it looks better than Bros. which makes me think I should make a scale. It gives away a lot in the trailer, but maybe that's not important for a situation comedy about a double lavender and green card wedding.

Also, props to Bleeker Street. I know A24 gets a lot of the credit for putting out mid-budget films of quality these days, but Bleeker Street: I see you.

Warfare (April 11th)

An A24 movie about the Iraq War. Directed by an Iraq War veteran. ...yaaay...

Despite the pedigree, I'd like a post-release feedback from veterans before I commit to something like this. It's gonna be unpleasant, but I'd like to be reasonably certain that's in service to understanding the realities of the Iraq War better.

The Eternaut (April 30th)

No slim guys with curly hair. In fact, most of it is apocalypse and alien invasion parts from other movies blended together. But somehow, it's got me.

Honorable Mentions

Careme

It's softcore erotica on Apple+ but...man pretty. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
