"The Picard/Sarek episode was a good one, what if we did that again but gave Troi the leading part"
He's a man of the people because... he uses people? As his amygdalla? I 'unno. (...shit, is "senator Amidala" named for being Anakin's conscience?)
Riker's relationship with Troi gets developed in a non-negative way. That's probably worth salvaging.
Wish I'd remembered this ep when we were talking about ORV "Cupid's Arrow."
The weird thing is how even though I witter on about it, she doesn't actually develop a romance with the guy, so I don't know if it links us to "Cupid's Arrow."
Both are adjacent to the "if the women in my stories need to consent, then I will invent a 'forces-them-to-consent' ray" question, which is worth discussing for exactly long enough to kick it to the curb.
I also like the link to "Sarek." It's a good catch. The difference is the consent issue, which--given that it's a Troi episode--is unsurprising.
A greater point comes from that, which is that people might have actually volunteered to help him if he'd asked.
This "Man of the People" title would make a lot more sense if he had a cadre (or mob) of supporters collectively directing him. No conflict unless you flip the consent issue though.
