17 to 01: Wolf in the Fold

After quite a wait, I've finally got the second of the three "lost" episodes up. Next one is "Mirror, Mirror."

McCoy is a terrible doctor because this universe is broken and also because he's trapped on Game of Thrones planet with Jack the Ripper. As an aside, Derek and I plumb the depths of heterosexuality.

Lookups: On Risa, they play hoverball. Kosho is a sport played in The Prisoner. The Prisoner is fantastic and you should watch it.

17 to 01 is available on iTunes. It updates Thursdays at 01:00 AM CT and Friday nights at 8:30 PM ET / 7:30 CT. We're also amazingly on Stitcher.

In the courtroom scene, I can't tell if the stenographer's actress is playing for subdued irritation or professional blitheness; obviously, it's her presence rather than her characterization that adds tension to the scene, but I still wish they'd shown her face when it comes out that a woman gets murdered everytime these suspects are questioned & she realizes that she's the only woman in the room.

By purest coincidence I'm sure, BattleTech has a bandit king named Redjack Ryan who is known for his bloodthirstiness, terror, and to hold grudges "for eternity."

The boardgame "Betrayal at House on the Hill" also has a scenario based on this ep.

We've hit up a bit of House on Haunted Hill, but haven't hit that one yet. Just another reason to keep playing. ;)

I kinda get the appeal of Jack the Ripper, but I never get why he captivates public imagination so much.

I figure Jack reached a magic combination of sensational and obscure at some point, and like Cthulhu, has been going on inertia ever since.

That makes a lot of sense.
